I defeated fox and monkey with defensive stance (counters too, but mostly stunning punches) That berserker fight is sure second hardest in the game (after the "final" final fight). If the enemies still do too much damage, i just ran around taunting while styx picked them off. Not on my first try, of course.)īuilding ark into 2:1 stamina-agility gave me quite a bit of deflection, with deflection gear and buffs i could get to 90-105% deflection in the late game (it was already functional enough late act 1, though). I didn't really need any hp on styx, even for his solo fights (of which I can only remember 1 now, 2 guys on the island - solved by kiting around the tables and using the "accurate throws", whatever they're called. It wouldn't be too bad, I'd probably get it eventually as is, but two fights into unskippable cutscene were just too much to bear after a dozen times. I ended up "giving" the guys like 12 additional levels for the final fight. Any knight died almost instantly with snipe+destabilising+armor break+some ranged attacks.Īssassin tree might help with the final fight though, and I honestly wish i sacrificed some comfort earlier for more punch there. Really doesn't do any favors for Ark's supposed combat prowess when he spends half of the tough fights on the floor.ĪoE tree is nice, but i didn't find it a compelling up in speed over just killing them 1 by 1. Honestly thinking about just buffing Ark's stamina through my cheats, right now every tough fight just turns into a chip-damage+revive-fest. Up to about 57% by now, so that's nice.Īrkail tanks/stuns/AOEs, Styx does freaking everything- poisons, armor-breaks, destabilizes, stuns, AOEs, single-target burn, running away and reviving Ark. Styx is a grab-bag- got vulnerability poison, stun grenade, rain of blades is expensive but good for gobbos, and have been stacking dodge as hard as I can. I guess it's GG for that quest if you haven't built him right, eh?Īs for character builds- I've heard good things about Arkail's Berserk tree, and the AOE in Styx's Shadow-branch just looks REALLY good.īut for the default branches, went for Arkail's defense & just pumped stam+a little bit of mind. How are you supposed to beat him on Bloodjaw? Destabilizing Feint?

Munkey though was immune to that trick, along with everything else I had at the time. Having just completed the Row, (that last fight was tedious as hell), I've only ever hit one seemingly impossible challenge: The Black Hand.įox was the first tough nut- after about 10 tries I beat her by sitting in defensive & strictly counter-attacking, only fast-attacking when she retreated to throw daggers. Heh, I'm playing on Bloodjaw too, but I'm also a (responsible) cheating bastard- prefer to play vanilla when I can. So if there were any points tucked behind one of Arkail's "LESS TALKING, MORE RAIDING!" lines, I could be in trouble.

I'm just concerned that they might reward the -canonical- choices, you know, good sync with the characters.

Picking your advanced specialization (you'll be given choices for how to complete certain scenes later on) gives you +2 to different stats based on your choice, but the skills you get from the advanced spec matter way more.

If I remember right the magic damage ignores armor, plus I just like the blue-side character developments better.īut yeah back on the original topic, OP there aren't many of those and they're not so super important you need to stress about them. I tend to go with both defensive trees for Arkail since I don't like gambling on berserk, and melee Styx (with the ranged stun bomb upgraded) + shadowgoblin advanced tree. The only time melee Styx is a bad idea IMO is if you're actually letting Arkail berserk regularly, in which case Styx should be out of arm's reach. He does need good Mind no matter what you do, though.

) Personally I tend to put him around 250-300 hp. Melee Styx is a complete beast, and we've had enough aggravated posts in here about the parts where Styx suddenly has to fight alone that I don't think advising more newbies to not give Styx any hit points is the best possible advice.
